Jump ABC Kit - The "R" Alpha

I dropped Abby and Joshua off yesterday at school and ran into a Grandma dropping off her twin granddaughters.  She asked me if Abby and Joshua were twins and when I said yes she then said this:

Grandma:  Oh!  Are they in Mrs. So-and-So's class?

Me: Abby is but Joshua is in the other class.

Grandma:  (with a shocked and disturbed look on her face) You separated them?!

Me:  Yes.  Obviously I am mean and trying to punish them for the mess they made of my belly.

Grandma:  Our girls would freak out if we separated them!

Me:  Clearly you are the one with the problem then.

Edit:  Okay so I really didn't say the last two things but the Grandma did!Twins

I understand that people are a little bit fascinated by multiples, I was too before I had twins.  I am still shocked though by the questions perfect strangers ask me or comments that they make (like the Grandma from the story above).  Here is my short list of annoying twin questions:

Are they natural? - no they were mechanically engineered.  What does this question mean?  I know what it means - you want to know if I had to "do the nasty" lol! to conceive them.  A seemingly innocent question but at the root of it is my sex life!  Clearly I am not embarrassed about the fact that my twins are a result of IVF but I am surprised that strangers ask.

Did you know you were having twins? - take a look at this picture:33w6d

I knew I was either expecting twins or a baby elephant. (this was an older layout I had done using the original Expecting You Kit)

Who was born first? - Again, an innocent question but I can not for the life of me understand why people want to know that Joshua was born 2 minutes before Abby.  I am talking about the woman in the grocery store who randomly walks up to me and asks me this question.  Why does she care?

Are they identical? - Really.  Seriously?  Did you not take health class in grade nine?  One is a boy and one is a girl, clearly they are not identical.  I would probably not be asked this question if I let the twins walk around naked.  No, people would still ask!

Do you dress them the same? - Yes but Joshua really hates it when I put him in a dress.  No, I do not dress them alike (although I did today as I was pondering the woman from yesterday).  If they were the same sex maybe I would but they are not.

Have you seen Jon and Kate plus Eight?  - Yes.  Have you seen Prison Break?  No comparison.

So there is my rant for today!Digitreats_jump_r_prev

Have to laugh at the questions. I am a twin myself, with a brother. My mom DID dress us alike at times as young kids (it was the 70's). And in HIGH SCHOOL, my brother and I were asked if we were identical. Uh no, we're not! Have a great day!!

LMAO Gotta love slack people with their dumb questions!

TY so very much!!!!!!!!!

You don't want to know how hard that made me laugh, especially the "are they identical" question. I guess "I hope not" would be a good answer! People ask all kinds of inappropriate questions to pregnant women, too, I guess it's just a natural fascination with our race continuing on. What great pictures, thanks for sharing them with us!

Thank you for the wonderful laugh. It's amazing how much people forget, or maybe they just didn't pay attention, from health class. I love the pics you took of them. They are so darn cute.

Hahahaha...ahhh...thank you so much for making my day. Stupid people are my favorite "pet peeve". I can't believe how many people there are out there who have mouths that work completely independantly from their brains. I totally needed that laugh today, so again thank you from the bottom of my heart! *snicker* Jon & Kate...Prison Break....LMAO!!

So, I don't usually comment. But, your entry today forced me to. ;) As a fellow mom of twins, I can really relate. It never ceases to amaze me when people ask ridiculous and rude questions. I just think that being a mom of twins prompts stupidity or something. Why do people care and think they have a right to know if twins were conceived naturally?

We have gotten so many rude comments as well. I was shopping with my boys (13 months/identical) several months ago, and a lady actually said to me, "I'm glad I never had twins." I looked her dead in the eye and said, "I'm glad you didn't as well." What nerve!

Anyway, here are my "R" rock and roll words: roadie, jam, guitar, keyboard, beat.

PS - Keesha is my BB10 pick as well. :)

LMAO! My sister had twin (paternal) almost a year ago - It will be interesting to get some of her stories. I can see an unintentional "meanness" that will occur when people ask those questions, though, because one of the girls has Downs. She is an absolute angel, but I cringe when I think of how mean people can be - not looking forward to that :-(.

Abby and Joshua are dolls (and I don't mean that in the 'feminine' sense of the word LOL!). It's fun watching them grow.

Oh, I understand the questions part! But, I'm not a momma to multiples. I have just one, who turns 5 in two months. I had a major complicated pregnancy, where one of my issues (that caused me to begin preterm labor issues at the start of my 7th month) was having polyhydramneos. Whew, even my fingers get tired of typing that word! It is a big word meaning I had too much amneo fluid. William was just extra happy with his olympic sized swimming pool. I only had one, but I can't even begin to say how many people would stop me in public (when I was allowed outside the bed) about if I was having twins or triplets. They never believed me when I told them I was only having one. The worst was when I was let out shortly before being admitted for preclampsia to go to the grocery store for pumpkin pie makings, and I got stuck in a squat position because the silly clerks decided to put pumpkin filling down on the bottom shelf. I about died!

Reading your Rant made me laugh out loud, I too have boy-girl twins (although mine are only 2) I love it when people ask me if they are identical---I always respond uhh one is a boy one is a girl...to which I always get...so? are they? Have you ever had the occasional person try to argue with you that they are twins? I have had several and its not like one is purple and the other is green, same eyes, hair..etc.. but they will insist I am lying or that having two children has turned my brain to mush and I dont know that they arent twins, umm I carried them for 8 months yeah they are twins, they had boxing and kicking matches in my uterus, they are twins. Anywho love reading your stories because they always hit close to home!!

Hahaha!
Thanks for the great laugh!!!

Rockstar, Groupie, Concert, Guitar(pic), Dance...

LMAO, you also made my day! People can ask the dumest questions. Thank you for another download. Your twins are adorable, great pictures.

I have fraternal girls, and got the "how were they conceived question" all the time. My favourite answer? I would look around, like I was making sure no one was listening and was about to reveal a big secret, and then whisper "Turkey baster." Many old ladies blushed and scurried away. Well, you asked.

I also had someone come up to me in a restaurant once - right in the middle of our meal - and ask if they were twins. We said yes, and then ignored her and went back to our meal. After about 30 seconds of standing there, she said "Wow, if I had twins, I would kill myself."

They are starting grade primary this year and will be in the same class. We decided to keep them in the same class for our own convenience. They will be in separate desk groups. My kids are not overly attached - if they were, I would have separated them. I hate people who think you should / should not separate them - I think it depends on the kids, and only the parents can decide that. And franky, having kids that would "freak" if they were separated sounds like a dang good reason to separate them!

I love it - I laughed and laughed. Of course not at you but with you. ;-) That's what I love about your blog, you give us great freebies, you share wonderful pictures of your family, and you have the greatest stories. Thanks!

oooo... Rock and Roll words, ready for this?

guitar (acoustic/electric), bass, amp, concert, lights, stereo, drums, Fender (had to plug that one), synthesizer, cymbals, percussion, strings, woodwind, earplugs (haha!), Telecaster, stage, monitor, Stratocaster, live, Marshall, decibel, mixer, recording, microphones (or "mics"), keyboard, cd/record/tape/8-track (your pick), headphones, beat, treble clef, B-side, gig, backstage, tour bus, pyrotechnics...

That's all me and my musician husband can think of at the moment, but I'm sure once I hit "post" our list will continue. Hope that's enough! :)

And can I pretty pretty please beg you for jump rock and roll elements, too? (Apparently adding that "pretty pretty please" helps out a lot ;) )

You are SO good-natured. I have a close friend who has twins and it really hurts her feelings when people ask horrible questions. I thought it was horrible for people to ask me questions when I was pregnant with my ONE child - people who would ask if I was going to breast feed, or when I was due. My friend gets really upset when people say things like "Better you than me" and rude things like that. I was reading the blog of a woman with twins and someone in the grocery store that she didn't know told her "I'm glad they're yours, not mine." The woman said "Me, too." and walked away. I cracked up. What is it about being pregnant that makes people feel like they can ask you personal questions?

Boy, your stories hit home for me. We have twin boys/identical and we also get the same questions. I don't really think people really know what to say regarding multiples! I wish I could come up with some catchy comebacks right on the spot but I never do. Maybe we should get a post going with some ideas?! LOL What do you think???

Thanks for sharing all your freebies. They are awesome!!!

Great stories too regarding your your adorable family!!!

I gotta tell you that "Are you having Twins" answer was hilarious.. a baby elephant?? Seriously funny! When I had my First ( now 25 ) people would ask me if I was having twins because I am very short ( not quite 5'3" ), thus only about a couple of inches from ribs to hips so it looked like I had stuck an ENORMOUS Beach Ball under my shirt. People can be soooo nosy! What happened to good manners?? Thanks for the Letters and listing my Add-Ons :)) Have a Great Weekend!

I HAD to laugh out loud at your rant. My BFF, Tonya (she's the sister I never had) has triplets who are 8. 2 boys & a girl. She's had some of the rudest questions, too. She's had all those, plus the rudest of rude..I'm glad it's you & not me! She's got a shirt that says "I'm glad they're mine & not yours, too!" I just can't get over the rudeness of some people.
My youngest 2 are 22 months apart but they are the same size. I get asked ALL the time if they are twins. My MIL thinks it's cute to dress them alike. I don't. My DH & I have a large family & the comments we get are awful, too. "Don't you know what causes that?" *eye roll*
To the mothers of multiples, ya'll have my utmost respect!!

I am also the mother of boy/girl twins that are two and I can SO relate to your post today:) I had another singleton 16 months later, so we have a triple stroller. Whenever I go out, I feel like a circus side show. You can't walk three feet in the mall without another person stopping to ask me stupid questions about the kids, or noticing all the people staring and then whispering to the person they are walking with. I'm pretty used to it by now, but once in a while it really gets on my nerves.

I mean, my kids ARE cute and should rightly attract attention, but sometimes it's a little much. LOL!

I don't have twins, but I can totally empathize with your stupid questions plight. I'm the mom of two children adopted internationally. We too get more than our fair share of everything from stupid to intrusive to downright nasty questions/comments. It always makes it a little better to read other people's stories about the questions they've had to bear. Thanks for sharing and giving me a good laugh today!

OMG, I love your stories! you crack me up. I really wish I had kids, but God gave me other plans I suppose. I live my dream by proxy thru awesome moms like you. Keep the stories coming! I want to make sure I don't miss a thing.

My dd had twins in her Pre-K class. BOY/Girl. The girl was ready for Kindergarten. The boy was not. So the mom held them both back. Not sure how I feel about that!

I am so forwarding this to my close friend who gets this all the time. "OOH, You're the mom with the twins".

however, I have 3 kids and got asked constantly when I had an infant. Young and Old. ALways the same "Are they all yours?" in an incredulous voice. As if I had 12 ducks runnign behind me.

Your kids are adorable!
Thanks for all this great stuff!

While I don't have any multiples as the mother of 5 I get the same dumb stuff asked.

Are they all yours? -- No I rent them by the hour would like the number?

Were you trying for that girl? -- No we wanted another boy but we decided to keep her anyway. (This one I actually said. -- It was a bad day and having lost the last baby I was just feeling grateful and blessed with our new healthy baby girl.)

Have you seen the Duggers? -- Yes, but like Pam seeing Kate plus 8 it is completely unrelated to my life. --- Maybe I should say you look a bit pale have you seen House, MD?

And one our friends got -- Don't you know what causes it? His real reply "Yes and it gets to be more and more of miracle everytime."
